Guardianship and LIVING. REALLY LIVING.

As a landscape architect first, I have always seen our Earth the way She is portrayed in the new film titled HERE.

I would have titled this film GRATITUDE.

The Director, Robert Zemekis, has referred to this film as, “A meditation on life.”

I have always seen landscapes and homes as entities that are gifted to us by Her, for our guardianship, sometimes for the entirety of our lives, sometimes for just a short time.

Sometimes that guardianship was to aid monkeys and wild donkeys. Other times, it was to aid bears, bobcats, and hummingbirds. In Hawaii, it was to aid eels and puffer fish. In St John, it was to aid sea turtles and sting rays. Just a few days ago, I wrote to the my apartment management company, “It’s been several weeks since the hurricane knocked us down. If we aren’t replanted soon, we won’t survive. Thanks so much, the west side tree family.”

Those trees were replanted within 2 days. They just needed a voice.

Maybe we have words, and a voice with which to say them, not because we are superior beings, but for our abilities to steward guardianship.

My spirit father used to say, “Imagine. Of all the egg and sperm that never create a human, over all time, and how amazing it is that you, and I came into the world, in this time, to have these conversations, Spirit Daughter.”

It is an incredible privilege to be a living, breathing being on this planet, to act as guardian for a speck of our Earth during the speck of time we inhabit Her.

And to call one another friend in this same time and place.

It’s been 12 hours since we stepped out of the theater to dance under the moon at the House of Blues. And my heart still overfloweth.

You, and everyone you know, will die. It’s happened for everyone, everywhere, throughout all time. So why not LIVE? REALLY LIVE?!!!
